Designing clothes and having my own line is something that I’ve always dreamt of..I started designing clothes when I was super young. What really pushed me to make it happen was the time that I had during lockdown. It made me realize that there’s nothing stopping me other than myself.”

His father’s name is Simon Keith Selby. Reuben Selby has three brothers, Nathaniel Selby, Luke Selby, and Theo Selby, who are established chefs at Evelyn’s Table, a restaurant in London. His brother Luke Selby earned the 2018 award for National Chef of the Year.

Career
In 2015, he became the brand ambassador of K-Swiss Global Brands. Later, in the same year, he took his first steps towards castings when he assisted his documentary-style photographer friend Rosie Matheson on her project ‘Boys.’ In an interview, while talking about her collaboration with Reuben, Rosie Matheson said,
Since 2015, I’ve been working on a project called Boys and Reuben played a main role in that, in the casting of the boys. We’d walk around Brighton and look for new faces to be part of the project or look through Instagram for interesting, cool people. We were so focused on the project, we didn’t realise we were casting new faces from quite an early stage in our friendship and work relationship.”
In March 2016, he joined ‘Shine Communications,’ a London-based public relations and communication firm. Before founding his modeling agency, Reuben pursued several jobs in the field of fashion, photography, and castings. Thereafter, he worked with popular fashion designers Thom Browne and JW Anderson and also with renowned publications like Wonderland, Office Magazine, Complex, Attitude, and Gay Times. In an interview, while talking about the variety of jobs that he pursued, he said,
I take pictures myself as well, so I was always doing a similar thing and tried to find interesting subjects. I’ve gone down a bit more of a fashion route, because I’ve worked with designers casting for shows and for magazine editorials and my own editorials too. I’ve assisted a lot of fashion photographers, stylists, and casting directors – I just tried to get as much knowledge of the industry as possible.”
In February 2016, he co-founded the creative agency ‘Cortex Creatives.’ In January 2018, Maisie Williams launched a social media platform named ‘Daisie,’ an application for talent discovery and collaboration, and appointed Reuben as its communications director. In June 2018, he ventured into the casting business when he founded the modeling agency ‘Contact.’ In 2020, he established his self-titled clothing brand ‘Reuben Selby.’ He presented his debut collection “(In)visible Barriers” in the courtyard of the luxury five-star hotel Ritz Paris. His clothing range emphasized genderless clothing, something he embraces himself. In an interview, while talking about his collection, he said,
Many of the pieces are the same cut for both men and women. You can’t put a gender on an item of clothing…Wearing a Thom Browne kilt skirt was one of the most freeing feelings that I’ve ever had wearing a piece of clothing, and it’s still not looked at in a way that’s necessarily socially accepted.”
In June 2021, Reuben Selby’s spring/summer 2022 collection entitled ‘Clash’ was presented at the London Fashion Week.

- Maisie Williams and Reuben Selby took their coordinated fashion one step ahead when they mutually dyed their hair bright red. The couple earlier wore coordinated outfits in various events like the Paris Fashion Week (2019), Thom Browne Show (2020), and Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas’ pre-wedding festivities in France. While Reuben chose entirely red-colored hair, the actress dyed only the tips of her blonde mullet.

- Reuben Selby is an active environmentalist who has closely worked with Infinited Fiber Company to create 100% recyclable fibers, which the company makes out of waste, for the production of his clothing range. As an endeavor to reduce the impact of the production on the environment, he collaborated with Sheep Inc., a carbon-negative knitwear company. Carbon negative companies eliminate the equivalent amount of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere that they produce during production, transportation, or packaging.
