She did her schooling from John Muir High School Early College Magnet, Pasadena, California, and graduated as an honors student. As a child, she wished to be an FBI agent and was awarded an LAPD scholarship to Howard University to study the Administration of Justice. However, she changed her mind and switched to pursue her Majors in Human Communication and minors in Dramatic Arts from Howard University.

On July 3, 2015, they got married in Thailand.
Gillian has two daughters from her marriage to Antonio Brown: Alaia Waters (born in 2001) & Niahla Waters (born in 2008). She has three stepchildren from Michael’s marriage to the Gynecologist Courtney Chatman: two step-sons named Devin White and Jai Jordan White, born in 1990 and 1995, respectively; she has a step-daughter named Morgan Michelle White who was born on December 24, 2008.
