Career as a fashion model
Anllela Sagra first started her career with fashion design, and then she moved on to modeling. It was during this period that she recalled being; “extremely thin since a muscular body is not something desired in the modeling world.” But later on, she met a personal trainer in the gym who inspired her in bodybuilding. She says, “I met a trainer who would forever change my life, his knowledge and mentoring catalyzed the lifestyle that I now live.” It was then that she started to understand more about fitness and the human body. She started with many new training styles and noticed how her body started adapting to the new changes. She felt more and more confident.
From being a model to bodybuilding
As she started to work out hard, she was getting away from her modeling career. It was due to the ‘extra muscle’ that she’d built. In Anllela’s own words; “Many told me to stop training because I was “hurting” my body, but the passion I had for the life I was starting to live was incredible.”
Her first fitness competition
She did not want to hear or focus on what others are saying about her, and she kept on focusing on what she felt was right. After gaining more confidence in the gym, she decided to enter her very first fitness bikini competition. Anllela says that when she won the competition, she was super surprised. In her words,
“After a year and a half of discipline and dedication, I enrolled in a fitness competition in which I came in 3rd place. I was extremely surprised by the results and even more by the comments from big names and judges, since I had only been in this world for such a short period of time.”
Making Tough Career Decisions
After she completed her first body-building competition, she did not know what to choose- fitness or modeling. She picked up bodybuilding because of how strong and confident it made her feel in comparison to her previous career. She says,
“It was during this time where I was torn between what I wanted in life. Do I want to be a model like all the other ones in Colombia or do I want to be the first Colombian fitness model? Was it worth leaving everything I worked for behind and receiving criticism for it? Is all this worth it to chase what I love?”
After a lot of thorough thinking and consulting her friends, Anllela chose to leave her modeling career behind and chose her passion for fitness. As Anllela said; “I decided to take it and risk everything.” Quite apparently, she made the right decisions in life. She now has an army of followers and is one of the most popular fitness celebrities on the internet. She recalls that what started as a pass time and passion became something that she would make her career out of. It was definitely a win-win situation for her. In her words,
“In life there is no such thing as luck, there are only opportunities and it is your decision whether or not to take a chance on them. I decided to take it and risk everything, lose everything and just jump into the world of possibilities and the truth is that it was the best decision I ever made in my life..”
